The Benefits of Canning
Canning and preserving food has many benefits. We'll try to cover them here, although I'm sure you'll think of others we've missed.
Financial benefits - the more canned food you can eat, the smaller your grocery bill is later. If the food you're canning was
picked in your garden then your expenses are even less.
Family time - Canning is a big job and often requires the assistance of more than one person. It's a great way to spend time
with family members and pass on the tradition of canning to the next generation. It's truly an art form that shouldn't be lost.
Variety - certain foods are only available during particular months of the year. By canning them you are extending your
ability to eat them to a year round option.
Tradition - As previously mentioned, canning is a family tradition done at certain times of the year. Kind of like harvest
for farm families. It's something to be shared, enjoyed, and passed on to the next generation. Canning fresh food is a great joy and even though
it's hard work sometimes, it's something you can be proud of and you can see the results of your efforts.
