Canning Safety Tips
Canning food a great project to be done with the family in order to preserve food to be eaten later. But it must be done correctly or that
preserved food will spoil or otherwise become uneatable. Follow these tips for safer food canning.
- Avoid water contact from the can to prevent the lid from rusting.
- Cans can corrode if highly acidic foods react with the container. Be sure not to keep certain foods in storage too long as they will
break down and can't be eaten.
- Don't store canned foods in high temperatures. This will spoil them. Avoid anything at 100 degrees F or higher (or even slightly
under it). If stored at 75 degrees they will lose their nutrients. Store in a cool dry place for best conditions.
- Be sure to date your cans so you can know when they were created and how long they've been sitting. Don't eat anything that's sat too
long.
